NATIVE SPECIES. This rounded shrub has attractive yellow flowers
with a joyful fragrance. Perhaps the most interesting attribute of
the Common Witchhazel is the bloom time, which is often between
October and December, for 2-3 weeks. The fall color on this
Witchhazel is a fantastically showy yellow, and gives way to the
yellow flowers later in fall. The Witchhazel grows in moist soil
and enjoys full sun. It's a tough plant, adapting well to urban
conditions, but does have trouble in drought. Being native to
Canada, it adapts to the Illinois area very well. The smooth gray
bark can be an attractive winter feature, and with the right
background this shrub is unforgettable.
