Design Process

  1. Fact Gathering
The first step that our designers take in preparing your landscape plan is to gather information about you and your home. Information, such as the style of your home, the number of people in your family, how often you entertain, plant preferences, and budgetary constraints, is investigated to help the designers focus on the scope of your project. The accuracy of the information is critical to the success of the design. In doing this research, our designers are able to create a specifically tailored design for you.

  2. Site Data Measuring & Site Analysis
Before picking up a pencil, our designers take the time to create an inventory of the existing conditions that will influence your project. Our designers look at aspects such as the character of the neighborhood, existing plant material, traffic flow of entertaining spaces and how visitors journey to and from your front door. They also look at your site from an engineering perspective by identifying challenging topographic areas that could cause drainage problems or walking hazards. Aesthetically, they study the architectural style of your home, and the colors and textures of the building materials. These details, along with many others, are explored and analyzed by our designers so that they can create a unique landscape to fit your style.

  3. Base Map
At the beginning of your project, the designers develop a base plan that is similar to a developer or builder's site plan. Careful measurements are taken of your site and all existing physical elements on your property such as driveways, fences, pools, etc are recorded and drawn to scale. This ensures that your project is designed with every detail accounted for.

  4. Conceptual Plan
The vision of your project unfolds in this next phase where the designers will develop an overall layout of your project and work through many different design stages. Several sketches are done to create a unique solution for your site. The designers are continuously researching your project and exploring ideas to develop the best possible design for you.

  5. Master Plan
After developing a few conceptual plans, our designers will select the best option for your site and specifications. A precise hand drawing is done to show a plan view that represents their ideas for the project. Further details, from the type and pattern of your brick pavers to the specific perennials for your garden, are determined at this stage and a master program for your project is put into place.

  6. Rendering
To bring your project to life, our designers color render your design to show a more accurate representation of the design and the plants that have been chosen. While the colors may not always be true to what is selected, this process will help you visualize your drawing.

  7. Estimating
Throughout the design process the designers continually relate back to your desires and budget restrictions in order to make sure all of your needs are met. At the completion of the master plan they put together a proposal that explains all of the costs of the design so that your ideas can soon become a reality.
